SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY

Scope: RENOVATION

As a solution to creatively connect Southwestern University properties that are otherwise sporadic, we analyze the 4 main arteries in Cebu City that the university can be potentially linked to. Connecting these arteries with the campus in the middle creates a framework for the adjacent properties to convert itself into a SOUTH WESTERN UNIVERSITY TOWN.

With this concept in mind, the goal of having an open and gateless community where visitors can freely come through organically becomes the basis for the architectural response. The design therefore, primarily calls for a systematic approach of bringing the visitors into the campus without compromising the efficiency of an expanding educational facility.

Marrying the intent and the design considerations, TVAP introduced a road slicing the campus diagonally in two halves. This predominant spine which is envisioned to become the linear core of the property is what ties the campus together.

With a human-centric design, one of the main goals is to make quality spaces in between buildings. Existing structures are modified to permit more open spaces that will be converted into plazas and public domain areas intended to serve as the cradle for assemblies, activities, and other social events. It is a priority to deliver a space with an enriching sense of belonging. Parks and walk paths are intelligently located to promote interactions. Landscaped and playful, these green buffers are to create an entertaining and stimulating surrounding to heighten the experience of walking through them.
