PASIG EVENTS CENTER

Scope: ARCHITECTURAL & ENGINEERING

The proposed building will be housing three functions: as a post office, an events place, and as a passage from the Mega Parking building to the city hall. As the events hall and functions rooms are virtual extensions of the Tanghalang Pasigueño, its entrance and facilities shall be placed adjacent to the auditorium's rotunda and drop-off. This will also give the events place a more private and quiet entrance and facade. As the Pasig City Government Center – the City Hall and the Tanghalang Pasigueño – are built with classical themes, the Events Center will have to follow along those lines yet still bring the City into the 21st century. To blend with the auditorium's facade, the front of the Events Center will have a series of arches which will serve as an extension of the Tanghalang Pasigueño. The arches are backed by a glass and steel structure to give the structure the modern appeal fit for its users. It is hoped that in the future, the left side of the Auditorium will be similarly designed to create a formal balance with the auditorium at its focal point.

Like a jewel inside a glass box, the Post Office evokes modernity and tradition at the same time. The classical arches inside the Post Office alludes to the past while its glass enclosure expresses the clarity of modern communication. Louvers at the top and bottom of the structure are designed to bring in natural ventilation into the space. Glass will be installed with ceramic frits or film to lessen solar heat gain within the spaces.

The massing of the building will be an alternating series of arches, glass enclosures, and a solid stone-clad mass. These elements will unify the architecture despite the different types of uses it is designed to accommodate. The arches for the Events Hall entrance echoes the post office structure enclosed in glass.
