LYCEUM OF THE PHILIPPINES UNIVERSITY, CAVITE

Scope: ARCHITECTURAL & ENGINEERING

Being one of the top universities in the Philippines, Lyceum University is an advocate of constant advancement in order to provide quality education to the children of our country. In line with this, as they deemed to extend their grounds to new campuses in Cavite and Batangas, the university commissioned TVAP to ensure the realization of their vision.

The concept of the campus was developed from the Laurel leaf which goes back to history as far back as Roman culture as a symbol for education, honor, knowledge and achievement. Coincidentally, Laurel is also the name of the family responsible for the continuance of the Lyceum University legacy.

Research was the very foundation of the design process considering that this was the very first university-campus undertaken by the firm. Newest design solutions and technology were proudly applied on this project resulting to double the number of student enrollees on its first year of operation and an immediate expansion soon below to fifth.

Laurel concept is made evident on the campus grounds through its Site Development layout. The domination of curvilinearity created an optically smaller structure on what otherwise is heavy and massive.

The center drop ceiling in the classrooms used perforated metal with insulation serving as a cable tray for utilities such as AC pipes, smoke detectors, and PA systems. It also improves the room acoustic and punctuates aesthetic to the interior. The ceiling raceway gives the architect’s solution to the changing demands of new technology in relation to educational concept of school systems. It makes the building adaptable to the latest design criteria with very minimal alteration.
